Less than 1/2% of one years expense for Iraq alone would give New
Orleans the levee & pump protection to make us safe from the next big
one (and it will inevitably come). Instead the Army Corp of Engineers
is trying to "solve" the problem on the cheap, just like they did with
the levees that failed after Katrina. It wasn't Katrina that sank New
Orleans, it was the cheap-ass Corp of Engineers back then, purposely
building to out-dated standards because it was "cost-effective."
