Any positive connotations for barbed wire?

I'm finding it difficult to think of any, but there must be good  
things about it. One thing that comes to mind is the way my old friend  
Don Charles (of D Squared, a fantastic guitar/harp duo:  http://www.dsquaredmusic.com/) 
  used barbed wire during the 10 years he and his wife spent running a  
few hundred head of cattle on a few million Northern Arizona acres,  
using barbed wire fencing to move his herd around the place to keep  
damage to the land to a minimum.
