Riffing on my own focus on Doc wishing he could house a warehouse
of Polaroid moments.....
Hope articulates the straight-ahead perspective of so many, of America?--
don't dwell in the past...overcome your grief (fast), So fast there is little grieving? .....move on with your life, like 'progress' in America?
get rid of all those pictures of the man you loved, the Father of your child.....
Yet, the irony we know is, SPOILER IF STILL NEEDED, that would be wrong within the book.....So, I suggest, Pynchon wants to say in this novel:
always remember some things, like love, yes Kai? and happiness....
A...and Doc wishing he had a snapshot of every moment is TRP, if Doc's words are 'of the author', so to speak, telling us Doc/TRP then? was happy, happy despite Shasta's 'moving on' and Bigfoot and whatever; so happy that he wants to preserve the memories (at least until the film fades).....Almost nobody wants such constant felt memories unless they are happy, I suggest.....A...and, of course, it adds the layer of the period before the paving stones that is now fading.....
Arguably, a happiness topped only, I said arguably, by a happiness that is beyond the feeling of time, beyond the awareness that it will fade.
I think we have here a small bit of autobiograhical metaphor re TRP during the writing of GR....Agree?
