Some points:
1. IV is P's most accessible novel and can be used as a 'back door' to his oeuvre for 'the indecisive'. 2. Doc Sportello is one of the most charming characters created by P.3. The detailed descriptions of the everyday life of California hippies pose serious obstacles to the translation. 4. For the inveterate aficionados this book might be just a pretext for returning to GR or waiting for what happens next while the clock is ticking.
