Hey, it ain't just you. In fact, it's a fairly safe bet that Pynchon
was aware of that potential, even probable confusion, 'specially since
Sasha points off in another direction.

But as for why go looking for the Wolfmann? Well, why wouldn't you,
eh? Som many reasons to do so, so few reasons not to. Above all, to be
punningly crude, that ol' Wolf man, he's mountain Shasta, see?
