Interesting review. I like the shoutout to Charles Willeford, author of some 
especially challenging crime novels, including the Hoke Moseley sequence --  
the first, "Miami Blues," was made into a pretty good movie with Alec 
Baldwin and Jennifer Jason Leigh. And his observations about the 
significance of P's use of "Dark Shadows" are intriguing.
