it's interesting to note that the implications of "law 'n' order"
involved this "throwing of money" which I seem to recall was
coined by conservatives to describe liberal efforts.

> "you want me to rat on everybody I ever met"...'how far back do we go'?, Doc appeals plaintively, with that old test of friends who can trust each other 'cause they know each other's character...

side note: ever since I saw that comic-style review of IV, (thanks,
whoever posted
the link) I picture Bigfoot just as drawn.

Anyway, he's cozying up to Doc because he wants to use him,
that much is obvious. But just like Doc trots out the hippie-freak
cliches almost compulsively, half-seriously (or less than half),
eliciting stylized contempt in response, but averting beatings and bustings
 - I am thinking that BB is, sure, offering the deal, but would be almost
disappointed if the Doc accepted.

Inside the cloud of probability (or is that reefer smoke?)
comprising each man, there are particles
of genuineness. The Doc is smart enough to know that the deal wouldn't
be comfortable for him; Bjornsen accepts his refusal and begins to respect him.

That's what I see happening up on the hill.
Doc's previous misadventure on the roof probably tickled
the cop's funnybones (it sure did mine), but if he were as stupid
as he looked then he would've accepted the deal...

Bjornsen's world, then, just became richer and so did Doc's,
in that rather than a strictly business relationship, there is a social aspect
in it. Doc's quicker (but flightier) mind groks this first, picturing himself
picturing Bjornsen with a private life. It's a stretch...but a rewarding one.

so, as alice mentioned, "just doing my job" might get you through
your shift, but there is so much more to any relationship, even undesired ones?
