Chandler's "Bay City" [Santa Monica, if you wanna get technical] has
super-bad cops, the type that will sap you and then dump you off at
Dr. Conrad Murray's office to be the guinea pig for some illegal &
dangerous drug experiments. Good thing Marlowe has so much experience
with intoxicants or he would never get out of these "clinics" alive.
Same with Doc.
Chandler also has the cantankerous cop Bernie Ohls—nominally a good
guy and kinda friendly with Marlowe but don't ever get on his bad
side. Bigfoot is more Ohls than one of the Bay City cops, but he's
still no angel.
