I'm giving away the whole gist of my reading (bfd)...
but, like, Doc - can he be somewhat filling in for the demised partner
- 'foot takes the measure of Doc, realizes there is a there there,
needs to get something done without his footprints, so to speak...
so yes Doc is being used, but it's a more honorable use than if
he'd accepted the snitch offer, in fact it's a fairly badass and inspiring
game that's afoot, so to speak
and although later Doc says to Denis that he ain't the guy who can
watch the back
of the 'squatch, don't we know that Dylan had feelings for the gal
for whom he said it wasn't him she was lookin'? Methinks he doth
protesteth too mucheth, and this might in fact be the start of a
beautiful friendship, although like the butler's smile as Pig 'n'them are
ejected from the Utgarthaloki's banquet, it's necessarily tight and guarded...
Cognate, mutatis mutandis: In the Heat of the Night?
/// in other news, I misquoted my own mishearing of 3rd Stone (again, bfd,
but just to get it straight...) I always heard "or" (not "and") "you'll never
hear surf music again" - which makes even less sense, if that's possible,
I mean somebody on the approaching craft is talking to somebody else
on the craft, so why are the Earthians "your people", and if he puts them
to an end (so as to avoid not hearing surf music again) then who will be
left to play the surf music?
