Big Mother. Remember that scene when Zoyd sits with his daughter and
views his window smash on the Tube? It's is rather important. Prairie
is watching a Clara Bow biography. The It Girl had a difficult life.
Her parents had a tougher time than Hope & Coy. While Zoyd references
Gidget to describe Prairie's b.f's prospects, Prairie watches Clara
Bow. Both internalize the Tube's view of parenting and child
development. Parents and Children are getting their ideas about family
life from the Tube. Not good. We need to dig into these film and tv
references because they a very important to our reading of these
novels. On pg. 57 Zoyd says he feels like Mildred Pierce's Husband,
Bert. This is super important.

1. a novel is made film is made tv movie (this is a negative trend in
VL and IV)
2. VL is a femnist tract of sorts and the feminst position is set out
in fim and tv and book references
3. it's about work' women's work and men's work and what happened to
both after WWII and the MIC Red Purge

So Mighty Mouse is babysitting a sick girl; physically, like the
bannanas in GR--a miracle only God can make, the girl is Okay. Her
mother's tainted milk did not damage her. Mother & Child. Ah, Mary!
Pynchon's hope is not invested in Hope in IV, but in Mary (Earth) &
Child (Man). But the child suffers damage. She has been abused.
Mightymouse is a very violent cartoon. Will the child of Hope grow up
like Prairie and and her b.f. Searching for a mother on the Tube? A
Violence enthusiast?

Prairie is ready to go with Hector to find her Mother.

Prairie wionders if BV is not her real Daddy.

The Film and TV and Book allusions tell a very grim story; a warning
that the Tube, Big Mother's Babby-siiter, damages children and the
sacred bond of parents with their children. The STATE wnats to take
the kidz away from the Family. Send them to war. To College. To Work.
