I'm just saying, regaring this story about idiotic behaviour among
*football fans*, lets keep it in proportion. The Sun is a
hyper-sensationilist tabloid rag, a thoroughly unpleasant and in fact
downright evil presence in British society, owned by Rupert Murdoch.
For them to point fingers is pretty rich.

I know. Not excusing or defending the behaviour of (some) Croat
football fans but:

a) Football fans in general can be prone to behaviours we would not
find laudable
b) The context in which this particular strain of fascist-friendly
insanity arose is complex
c) Having spoken with someone who attended a football match in the
region last week, you should hear what some of the football fans from
other countries in the region have to say, if you want 'sick'

We had a 'discussion' on this list a while back, which resulted in me
taking my ball and going home for a while. What was demonstrated was a
well-nigh universal level of utter ignorance with regard to the recent
politics and conflicts in the Balkans. As someone with an interest in
that area, I found it very sad. I also got really pissed off. SO I'm
not wanting to open up that whole can of worms again. I'm just
cautioning against people here, on this list, getting themselves
worked up about a subject they're not too clued-up on.
