IVIV Hope Harlingen: a wacky theory (possible spoilers)

I'm inclined (well, actually, I'm sitting in the restaurant booth I bought
and set up in the spare room because Doc's office sounded fun) to think
P isn't always decrying, sometimes just describing...
I've drunk boatloads of coffee myself, so I can relate to that.
Ex-junkies, at least the ones I've met, do in fact tend to keep the coffee
flowing, and often enough a cigarette going too, bless their hearts (which
certainly need it)
...coffee is a fabled antidote for many kinds
of intoxication ("a"-methyst, "not" all-a-drunk), so he is stimulating
the little grey cells and
coming out of his own haze to address the work at hand, as in waking up
and smelling the coffee...
Kids like TV, but they do still seem to occasionally
prefer the homegrown, hand-rolled story,
so while there may be all kinds of external
values to be gleaned and rapped about from the mere mention of coffee and TV...
...within the local function of the scene, hey, Doc isn't telling a story, he's
going for the truth, hmmm? And his place in the creche is self-defined as one
of the shepherds or Wise Men, not Joseph...or, the type business he is on
(worst case scenario) he might even be mistaken for one of Herod's people...
she's called on his services because he walks among that type of person anyway
---
sentimental side trips that may not be warranted, but I took anyway:
a) Harlingen - makes you think of Texas and LBJ who, say what you will,
will be remembered for some bold progressive legislation
b) Harlingen, also sounds like Arlington, where that JFK was laid to rest
with an eternal flame
c) Hope is something that JFK encouraged
d) What person besides Coy also is a sax player:
the man from Hope, who, say what you will,
did run a campaign or two that tended to lift spirits?
(don't stop thinking about tomorrow)
e) if calcium is what heroin leeches from the body, how much
of a stretch is it to think of calcite, ie Iceland Spar, and how
the single-mindedness of the junkie prevents the beguiling doublings
that make life more interesting?
f) there may be more implications to focusing on her
damaged dentition, but it's plain to see at least that having lost her
natural teeth, Hope has exerted herself (dentistward) and made a new
smile that the author makes a point of mentioning that she does have
occasion to use
