The mere mention of TV? The novel begins in/on TV--that window that
Shasta and Larry are framed by in the opening scene is a TV
screen/set. It is, after all, L.A. The novel begins in TV-land.
And, with altered or possibly altered minds on drugs. Maybe everything
that goes on in this novel, and we have good reason to believe this is
the case since this novel seems a lot like Vineland, is going on, on,
in, around, TV. Like on and in TV sets and movie sets(both kinds).
And, even when the novel setting is non-TV it flashes TV channels and
sets and characters act like TV characters and mock and ape the TV
families and TV situations and comodies. Characters work part time as
actors and collect monies from the SAG or other acting gigs. Mere
mention of TV and drugs (coffee)?
Who does Juicegirl act like? Mighty Mouse. Mighty Mouse is a viloent little guy.
