There is a buffoon aspect of Coyote and that particular Coyote does  
take it in the shorts. Coyote also made man from mud—in some stories,  
feces as well. All those bad qualities—greed, avarice, megalomania-— 
that made it to the Roadrunner versions are in the myths, along with  
his cunning and [usually self-defeating] intelligence. Do remember  
that Chuck Jones, Michael Maltese and Co. were unusually gifted folks  
and probably got Coyote in more trouble than the originals. But it's a  
fair bet that Maltese and Jones knew their Coyote tales.
