Hadn't thought about it until now but Riggs' exuberance and quick
actions might indicate he was on speed, which makes me think of tabacco
autioneers of the late 30s and onward L. A. "Speed" Riggs, the radio
voice of Lucky Strike cigarettes. (Jack Benny Show and others)
The nickname "Speed" of course came not from anything he was taking but
referred to the velocity of his crying out of tobacco lots.
