I just cracked today, and ordered the mono box.

I agree, the mono is the best version. But, for example, there are
some interesting sounds on 'Lovely Rita' that can only be heard
(properly) on the stereo version.

It's true that one of the most immediately noticeable changes is more
bass. But there are also enhanced mid ranges and sharper vocals. An
overall sprucing up of the sound. Compare the muddy obscurity of the
old Past masters verson of Ballad of John & Yoko to the new one, the
remaster is far clearer.

Thing with that forium is, there's just too much to wade through. I
look forward to someone doing a thorough album by album review,
pointing out differences and enhancements.
Haven't heard Beatles for Sale yet, will have to wait until my mono box arrives.
