Rich,
Here's 'where I come from". I liked it more than you or many others did, but it IS minor if it works. And I admit I may like it because it is P more than it merits.
However, even bad books can be, what, deconstructed?, annotated. Lit history is full of layered bad books that have not survived the cut.
So, yea my remark on living in the moment is .....crazy. Over the top.
But also, being a pothead might just be a BAD metaphor for living in the moment---which seems to be a kinda-buried theme of TRP's.
For example, I just started rereading GR, and I am struck with how Pynchon CLEARLY, it seems to me now, has Pirate Prentice 'live in the moment'...
"pissing without a thought in his head"......then, next page, "Allowing himself to count only bananas"......
That's where my way-out thot came from. So, you refute it for its ridiculousness. It's OK by me.
