The Hoffman Forum has a thread on Charlie Manson's "Lie" album. This
seems relevant to Inherent Vice:
Roach-Clips:
"Lie" was recorded in a small studio on Santa Monica Blvd.,
near Beverly Glen. Wilder Bros. is still around, as a video
company.
Regarding the demo's the Beach Boys recorded*, I witnessed
Dennis throw a 2" master tape in the ocean the year he died;
(believe me, I tried to stop him!) I do understand that there is an
additional tape still in the vault.
Laservampire:
That would be a great bit of history destroyed right there
Roach-Clips:
Tell me about it! (Why do you think I tried to stop him?!?!)
As I said, it was near the end of his life, and Dennis wasn't in the
best of shape. We were at an engineers house in Venice, and I
wasn't even aware he had found the tape prior to that. He asked
the engineer for the tape he had given him to store, (don't know
if that guy had played it or not), then ran towards the ocean, with
the reel unspooling behind him. As I tried to stop him, he said
he felt terrible about his part in the whole affair, and this tape
wasn't something the world should ever hear... I don't agree,
especially now, over 25 years later, as the public facination with
Manson continues to grow.

*Apparently there are studio recordings of Charles Manson with Carl
and Brian Wilson, but not Dennis.
