Paul Thomas Anderson Wants to Adapt Thomas Pynchon's Inherent Vice

Who doesn't like a nice rain of frogs?

My caution is that Robert Downey Jr. is being talked up as Doc Sportello.
Downey's performances have become broader and more "showy" in recent years.
More subtlety is called for than I think he would deliver.
