I'd like to see one of my two current favorite male actors get the part: Christian Bale or Ewan McGregor. They're both fantastic actors, good with accents, and could easily portray Doc's nuances.
Anderson as director? Could be better (though I can't think of anyone off hand), could be worse. I didn't like Magnolia, but I like Boogie Nights. There Will Be Blood looked great, but the story fizzled.
