I dunno, I think people would buy, if anybody were selling and making
an honest case for it.

a functioning space program, highway infrastructure, national health a
la Canada, enforcement of federal laws, a humane prison system,
funding for education therein (and on college campuses)
a poverty safety net, so forth...

heck yes I would GLADLY pay more taxes for those things

a lousy couple bucks more in each paycheck doesn't even come close to
the same value

that's why they call it "commonwealth"

we all know this!  And polls show we would vote for it.
