Tony Tanner, early Pynchon appreciator's last work was Prefaces to
Shakespeare. In it he says outright that he believes that NOTHING is
accidental in the work of Shakespeare (and other great writers) so he
just tries to find some creative meaning in all the surprising lines, the
little things, etc.

He seems to be the only one who has noticed that there are over a hundred
O exclamations in Othello! --unlike any other play....

When he riffs on O as a Renaissance symbol of perfection but also, of
course, as a zero, a nothing, Othello's arc to his final speech full of
exclamations, you believe him even when you can't.
