I wonder too if these scenes here are early attempts at Conrad's SA,
Nostromo, UWA, the fierce irony of doubles and secrets shared,
betrayal, that predictably baffle a political reader who knee jerks
and wrenches the reading into the genre it parodies, much as Conrad's
readers mis-read his works as sensational and not a complex and ironic
parody of the popular "television" media of the day. Misreading
Frenesi or Verloc, the politcal read is liable to glaze over all the
ironies that disallow the themes of the desperate need of
communication and love in the fog and secret doubles dealings of
ordinary men and women.
