observation on Measure for Measure and Pynchon

TRP musta loved this play early. One connection that has hit me
might be this (in its way)....The Duke, aware his city---Vienna---had
lost its authority---goes into disguise and SPIES on the characters,
and manipulates them (as he can) the whole play....

TRP and spying.

And, of course, Vienna, that so-cultured, internationally avant city
in the early 20th Century---is savaged in Against the Day...
