detect. Whence the name? 

Every human, everything organic, smells ..to a dog. 

So, Noseworth isn't quite human? Not quite a man?Is a tough disciplinarian---holds Darby over the side despite his terror---might one say an immature fascist? 

Perhaps not quite a man, humanly speaking? Is he one Y [chromosone] short of being Noseworthy?
