Lew had a problemm with " a sin he was supposed once to have committted. As to the specifics of this lapse, well, good luck." 

Remind any of our observations about Doc's morally imperfect past?

AtD: "It would've helped if he could remember, but all he could produce was this peculiar haze."......Doper's brain, metaphorically? 

His wife, deciding to leave him, says, in answer to where he was supposed to live, "I don't care. Go back to one of your other wives."

??? Too many women---like Doc?
