p. 53 Prof VanJ "while there was a frontier"--we have been told that his colleague Turner has published the famous thesis about the end of the frontier in Amaerica.....you always knew where it was and how to get there....piss flowed down both sides of the divide.....P presents a working togehter of disparate folk--natives, strangers, Anglos, Mexicans, cavalry and Indians...that remind me of his LA in Inherent Vice........
when the Frontier ends disconnection begins, says Prof VanderJ.........
So Lew asks if that means he was about to be disconnected from himself????
[Interesting self-extrapolation?, anyone, anyone?]
"sent off into exile, into some silence beyond silence as retribution for a remote and ancient vice always just about to be remembered..........
Vice again, and some unknown 'sin"?
Which puts him in the control of potent operatives who did not wish him well...............
Because of lew's [inherent] vice, he has to 'work' for others who control him?......Alice, do you read me?
