Didja know that Orwell first used the term, "Cold War" in a 1945 essay? Called 'You and the Atomic Bomb'...

Andy Warhol did a Nixon silkscreen with a green complexion and fangs(!) with the caption injunction Vote for McGovern, in one of his very rare overt political works. 

On photography in Pynchon, (very maybe):
Arthur Danto, in his book on Warhol, contrasts some portraits by Francesco Clemente, who says he never paints a portrait from a photograph because a photograph "never gives enough information about what a person feels."

Danto also says that "few portraits in modern art compare with Clemente's amazing 'Princess Gloria von Thurn und Taxis'". !
