Around 1930, an historian from the famous Adams, as in Henry, clan wrote
a new history of America, in which the first (major?) use of the phrase
'the American Dream' appeared. He wanted to entitle the history, The American Dream but his publisher would not have it: something about pragmatic Americans NOT buying a fantasy title like that: Americans worked and lived happily, or okay enough, within the "dream" that they did not call that......

In the late 60's and into the 70s, Hunter Thompson was trying to write a book he was calling The Death of the American Dream. Never did finish it whole.

In a letter, Hunter said this: in 1968, Bob Dylan, with the organization Eugene McCarthy had, could have garnered the support and votes that Clean Gene did........but by 1972, he would have gotten, maybe, 3% of the vote.
