Good question!
My first iPod was a gift, and I must admit I fully felt the wow factor when taking it out of the box, etc.
But I have since really soured on Apple.
A friend of mine has a Zune, which he likes. He bought an ipod, hated it, and returned it. I might try one of the Walkman MP3 players next time.

Although I really hate to give up that all important pose factor,
which generic MP3 do you recommend for a better listening experience?
Which one has the largest storage capacity coupled with best sound?

But the iPod, as opposed to the generic MP3 player, does not have any
real advantages beyond, arguably, improved aesthetics. Plus the pose
factor of course.
