So, continuing to deepen my memories, I am reading Rick Perlstein's
"Before the Storm: Barry Goldwater and the Unmaking of the American Consensus"......

Thesis: Goldwater's humiliating loss in the 1964 election, led some 'conservatives' to try so much harder: to 'organize', create think tanks, mags, foundations, that ...they created in time, the new Anerican consensus......

Anyway, didja all know that on Barry Goldwater's mother's side, he was descended from Roger Williams, Puritan dissident?

And, speaking of P's concern with money in his fiction---hyperinflation in GR; silver, gold standard in AtD and IV; Nixonmoney; the plastic Jefferson coin; didja know that one 'theory' that circulated in paranoid "conservative" circles 
was that McCarthy-accused "Communist' Harry Dexter White, Treasury Dept official---who went on to become director of the IMF!---stole US Mint engraving plates so that Communism could flood the country with excess currency)!!
