Moulthrop was educated at George Washington University and Yale, where he received a PhD in English in 1986. He became an English major at George Washington University after reading Gravity’s Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon in 1975. He taught at Yale from 1984-1989, then at the University of Texas and the Georgia Institute of Technology before moving to the University of Baltimore in 1994. He is currently a Professor of Information Arts and Technologies at this already mentioned University of Baltimore.
