The Preserved escaped from a huge nitroglycerin blast---rereading I am obliquely reminded of Lew Basnight's escape from a dynamite blast in AtD---which destroyed almost everything in Halifax Harbor, ships AND SOULS.

The blast happened in 1917. Any connection to WW1 is.......entirely coincidental?....the facts of the two World Wars...life as "a state of siege" [ATD] mattering so much to TRP....?

But it escaped and, still a fishing vessel, it also became a racing vessel....
anyone see a symbol for for those go-go years between the World Wars?...Those years in which the Chums balloon became a turbocharged mini-city?....
