I have learned serendipitiously that it was from 1952 that Rene Lacoste exported 

his alligator trademarked clothing line to the US and advertised it
as "the status symbol of the competnet sportsman".....

And, it seems the popular anonymous old American saying/joke that 'it is 
sometimes hard to remember when one is up to one's ass in alligators, that
one's original purpose was to drain the swamp" goes way way back.........
