Hitchens on Pynchon

Hitch was working for The New Statesman at the time.....elsewhere
he has written that he asked if he could call him back.........
My guess is he had a story or book he wanted to tell him about---
NOT one of his, of course---and trusted calling him because of McEwan.
Then, like the ringing pay phone story and like another friend of mine
who hates telephones...he went away and decided to forget it.
