OLD NEVER-SENT POST: more prolegomena to V.: 1960...

    * January 24 – A major insurrection occurs in Algiers against French colonial policy. 
 
    * January 30 – The African National Party is founded in Chad, through the merger of traditionalist parties. 
 
Countries declaring independence from the colonizing powers, esp. England, of course, is a pervasive happening in 1960 and 1961 especially. Too numerous to list, check wikipedia further under the years, if interested. 
 
U2 spy plane shot down......many international political events @ spying in 1961 and especially through 1962. 
Seems very relevant.
 
Whenever P's V. was incubating, all of these political V-thematic echoic events indicate his artistic antennae's 
early warning system, imho. 
 
To Kill a Mockingbird is published. Publishing company is Lippincott too. In a reversal of much of today's narrowing, the non-editorial
parts of the company eagerly wanted it published even though the overriding opinion was that it might not sell. 
 
forget 1962, Clockwork Orange is published.
 
A...and, just in: Italy, some history of which plays a role in V.----- Italy formed its first left-of-centre government in March 1962. Therefore
all previous had been right of center or...at best, centrist?...I  don't know nothin' bout Italy.
