Pynchon's James, Hemingway-infused stories

Then
Kerouac's new style in ON THE ROAD

Nabokov's Road novel LOLITA

Heller's new absurdities in CATCH-22

V. the start of finding new tones, styles, which would not have happened without the above.

As usual, the best writers open everything before society does.
