NP but translating Infinite Jest and a touch of On the Road rhapsodizing

I can see why it would give a translator fits. Every time the voice
changes (and it changes constantly) the vernacular changes. The
French-Canadien bits use English words and French word order. Not so
difficult. But the street characters both white and black have
deliberate mistakes in word choice. How do you translate the
substituted word when it's not a cognate and may have no relation to
the intended word in the new language? How do you preserve the humor
of the misunderstandings between characters? The tortured syntax of
the half-uncle or the plagiarized webjournal on the Wheelchair
assassins?

By the way, this would be my choice for a non-Oynchon group read.
