I see Inherent Vice as, superficailly at least, a book bridging the 60s and 70s..Lotsa social, personal 'troubled waters' in the book.
Seems "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" was released (as a single) in late November 69 and was #1 for ten weeks in 1970, as Rich first reminded.
Although TRP waited over three decades to put down the late 60s troubles, I'd see him and Simon (& G) as two artists as zeitgeist feelers in so very different ways....
