Alex Ross Perry (Impolex director) mentions that Impolex has been
renamed Verizon in Poland as Impolex is the name of a Polish phone
company. I THINK he's not kidding. Maybe. Meanwhile, note also
Modus Operandi. A friend of mine wrote/directed it, friends
act/star/appear in it, friends shot/edited/whatever it, and friends
recorded the (killer) score to it. Inc. Danny (Machete) Trejo, Mark

>From the Gut – Provocative American Cinema
“Discoveries: From the Gut”, another special section in OFF PLUS
CAMERA 2010, will present the most original and experimental films in
contemporary American cinema. Often harsh and even irritating, these
are socially provocative productions that aim for serious responses
from audiences as they reevaluate the thematic and aesthetic
parameters of modern cinema.
These films were carefully selected by Trevor Groth, Sundance
Programming Director and Mike Plant, who also works with the top
American festival. They are regular collaborators with our festival
and are known for their extensive knowledge and uncompromising
selections of American independent cinema. We are proud that these two
distinguished film connoisseurs and their special project “From the
Gut” will be supporting the organization of OFF PLUS CAMERA.
There will be eight films screened in this section, one of which will
be Asiel Norton’s “Redland”. Not a film for the faint of heart, the
film tells the story of a rural family on the brink of starvation and
struggling for survival in Depression-era America. While its spiritual
patriarch tries in vain to provide for his family, his daughter goes
to extremes to hide an affair from him. Yet as their way of life
erodes and they run out of money and food, the family's moral
rectitude intensifies. One saving grace may be the beautiful forest
that surrounds the family's homestead, serving as a fairytale setting
into which the family hopes to escape and the backdrop of the
continual battle of man vs. nature. It is only after complete
dissolution, however, that the family can be reborn.
“Modus Operandi” is a crazy rollercoaster ride of a film directed by
Frankie Latina. Both macabre and hilarious, the story is of a bloody
vendetta that begins when two mysterious suitcases disappear from the
President’s office. Former C.I.A. agent Stanley Cashey, devastated
after the brutal murder of his wife and suspended between life and
death, is called in to help with the case. Cashey uses a suprising
array of tactics and weapons to complete his mission, as he has been
promised that in exchange he will discover the identity of his wife’s
murderer. A series of absurd and brutal murders follows, which end up
changing the course of history.
Other films to be screened in this program include “Big Fan” (directed
by Robert D. Siegel), “Etienne!” (Jeff Mizushima), “Harmony & Me” (Bob
Byington), “Impolex” (Alex Ross Perry), and the previously mentioned
Independent Spirits Award winner, “The Exploding Girl” (Bradley Rust
Gray).
