I'm only about 2/3's through Augie March right now, so I can't confirm
this as the book's message. But from my perspective the book is about
Augie's growth and evolution, his discovering who he is in relation to
the world. If he "got it together," it would have to be a temporary
state. Otherwise boredom would result.
The tone of the book is what sets it apart for me. It is very measure and calm.
