As Against the Day went out, an Italian comedian (Daniele Luttazzi)
wrote this news-joke:

-----
November 2006, Literature
J.D. Salinger run over by a car driven by Thomas Pynchon.
-----

I though this mailing list was a perfect place to ask people who could
fully get it. From my limited knowledge so far (I've refused the
reading of Cathcer in the Rye when a Stalinist cunt tried to enforce
it), the only parallels I'm aware of between the two writers are:
*the refuse of being part of the Spectacle
*Salinger got banned because of a single mention of 'fuck', which
Holden himself doesn't even endorse, and despite being overall very
moderate if not prudish; Pynchon doesn't make concessions to moral
hipocrisy.
