Hostile AtD reviews, veiled McCarthyism?

I only remember one such major-enough reviewer in English.....Adam Kirsch at The New York Sun.
That review is on the pynchon wiki and it is cited in the wikipedia article on Against the Day....

Kirsch is a good reader, imho in general, but he did NOT get AtD.................attacked a book it wasn't...
attacked the straw man of Pynchon Politico.....(who is not too easily summed-up politically---as we might expect
of a writer who hates reductionism..............)

One constant Pynchon detractor, the famous James Wood even discerned some of the "conservatism" [of values]
in his estimation in AtD........................

Subject: Hostile AtD reviews, veiled McCarthyism?

When the Italian translation of AtD was out last year, an Italian reviewer
explained the 2006 AtD hostile reviews by saying that what made the critics
chagrin at, was the condemnation of capitalism and the loyalty to the
60s dreams. Does it sound accurate to you?
