<< I suspect Inherent Vice left us all at loose ends. >>

Pynchon-wise, you may be right.

<< Certainly, the
buildup and starting chapters of IVIV were full of heat, light, a
little smoke and the ghosts of Howard Hughes, Vivian Stanshall and
Raymond Chandler. >>

I don't remember Chandler being mentioned!

<< ..... Right now I feel like I'd be better off
reading someone else. >>

Sure. Maybe the p-list would be better off group-reading someone else? In fact, maybe we should all fire off some suggestions for non-Pynchon books we might go through together. I'd expect a vote or two for 'Infinite Jest' if we did. I would suggest 'Garden, Ashes' by Danilo Kis, a book which I have recommended oodles of times here to no noticeable effect. And I'd be very interested to hear other suggestions. I would like to do a read of a book by one of Pynchon's near-contemporaries, one of those big 'Post-WWII' authors we were talking about a while back: Mailer/Updike/Roth/Bellow etc. Maybe a group-read of Augie March would be a bit too heavy for the list to wade through, but we could surely have a good run at Herzog.
