Pynchon List Group Reads of non-Pynchon Books

I could go with a Chandler book too. Virgin territory for me, except  
in the movie spinoffs. It would also invite thoughts on Lew Basnight,  
Doc Sportello, Herbert Stencil and Pynchon's use of the detective  
paradigm.
