No suggestion here that these lines below are a source
or even an inspiration for TRP on the glass eye in V....
We--I mean I, Kimosabe-- sometimes just learn more about literary tradition
and historic tropes to give more context to P and/or comes from
almost everywhere.

Plato wrote that love came in through the eye...
Which surely stands behind the Princess first speech
in Act 2, Scene 1 beginning with :
"Beauty is bought by judgment of the eye"...
And Boyet a little later, same Act, Scene..
"Why all his behaviors did make their retire
to the court of his eye, peeping through desire."

--------------- the play is online if you want these lines
-------------
"Methought all his senses were locked in his eye,
As jewels in crystal for some prince to buy
Who, tend'ring their own worth from where they were glassed"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
crystal was a positive substance here for Shakey; not so in P's world...
