Marijuana Initiative Challenges Costly, Bloody Drug War
by Tom Hayden posted on Thursday, 2 September 2010
We also need to consider carefully why the drug crisis is
embedded in US military campaigns – from the Golden Triangle
in the Vietnam War era, to cocaine and the Colombia
counterinsurgency, and now to the current Afghanistan war,
where 10,000 Europeans over-dosed on Afghan heroin during
last year alone. Each of us must draw our own conclusions. It’s
impossible to argue that our militarized approach has
diminished global drug trafficking.

"We're nobody's¨ protégé this administration, State Department
hates our ass, NSC thinks we're scum, if Customs don't steal it
out from under us, Justice and FBI try to either run it or fuck it up,
and frankly," lowering his voice, "notice how cheap coke has
been since '81? However in the world do you account for that?"
"Roy! Is you're sayin' the President himself is duked into some
deal? Quit foolin'! Next you'll be tellin' me George Bush."
Roy kept a prop Bible on his desk, useful when he needed to
get along with the born-agains in the Agency. He opened it and
pretended to read. "Harken unto me, read thou my lips, for verily
I say that wheresoever the CIA putteth in its meathooks upon
the world, there also are to be found those substances which
God may have created but the U.S. Code hath decided to
control. Get me? Now old Bush used to be head of CIA, so you
figure it out."

What Should We Make of the Charge Linking the Bush Family
Fortune to Nazism?

Prescott Bush
Herbert Parmet writes: "In the summer and fall of 1942,
Congress, under the authority of the Trading With the Enemy
Act, seized the first group of entities, the UBC, the Holland-
American Trading Corporation, and the Hamburg-American
Line. Buchanan's diligence has discovered that the latter
'reportedly smuggled Nazi spies into the U.S. before the war
and encouraged U.S. 'Patriots' to travel to Germany and
proselytize for Hitler in the early 1930s.' Much of this is
confirmed by the new documentation. The UBC was not a 'bank'
at all but 'in reality a clearing house' for many assets and
enterprises held by Fritz Thyssen, a German steel magnate who
has written about his role in helping to finance the Third Reich.
Located close to Bush's 59 Wall Street office, it was 'founded in
1924 by W. Averell Harriman on behalf of Thyssen and his
Bank voor Handel en Scheepvaart N. V. of Holland.'"

And, yeah—I know my final citation is not "reliable," something about
plausible deniability. Still, just remember that Bayer obviously has
an interest in maintaining a stranglehold on certain useful substances.
