No-one expects the English Disquisition!

We of the English Disquisition divide Romance into 2 main forms, which
recount with a straight face miraculous violations of natural law: a secular
form dealing with chivalry and knight-errantry, and a religious form devoted
to legends of saints, and a modern form which places the action within not
feudalism nor the eternal struggle for holiness but within a recognizable if
somewhat cynical version of history as a classroom and its denizens as
dunces...

...3 main forms, all of which incorporate incidents beyond explanation by
natural law: a secular form, a religious form, a modern form, and a
postmodern form which incorporates such elements as the presence of
references to the author within the text, questionings of form, stylistic
experiments, borrowings from science, philosophy and other art forms, and
detournement of traditional narrative elements...

4 main forms, all of which refer with varying degrees of sincerity to events
which if we witnessed them rather than simply reading about them we would
consider miraculous and (most of us) dismiss via Occam's Razor, but in
reading about them we can envision them to some extent and ponder the
associated thoughts and lessons they offer: a secular form, a religious
form, a modern form, a postmodern form, and a specifically Pynchonian form
which in some respects has grounded itself in and proceeded from the written
legacy of the exceptionally talented American writer, Henry Adams, but also
shows a talent for evoking feelings and the movements of the heart, a sly
(and yet, somehow kindly) wit, and an affinity for the combustion byproducts
of certain useful Substances...
