Hit me as Pynchon-like

I did an art gallery crawl this evening and one work hit me as a nice metaphor
for a Pynchon theme, perhaps.

Called "Shadow" by a Jim Nesbett, 1993-94, I think, it consists of this:

It is a small statue of a sitting Buddha inside a transparent glass/plastic
cube. The wall plaque says he is
sitting an a piece of paper----the text.

When one goes closer to the cube to take it in...it befogs speedily, fills with
a kind of smoke or cloud!....
Which goes away if no one is close enough any longer to see--the text, even the
Buddha closer.

Loved it.
