I was saving this ob to aggregate with some misc. others as I read
Shakescene.....THEN

*it's all over the interwebs, Obama quotes hendrix: "They treat me like a
dog"....*

Everything connects.

Dogs in Shakespeare vs. dogs in Pynchon. Seems almost all dog references in
Shakespeare are of a negative kind...as in somoene calling someone a dog, or a
dog-metaphor you wouldn't want to be called. Even the most famous "Ev'ry dog has
his day" is a gentle positive nod to the tough life of a dog then.
